A tour of London Hospital Linen Service will include how these systems (Ecolab /Spindle) are being utilized.

London Hospital Linen Service is a cooperative serving healthcare facilities in Southwestern Ontario. Its radius of operation is 200 km. LHLS runs production 88 hours per week providing a 7 day delivery/pickup service.

Services include:

  • Personal Clothing from Nursing Homes

Combining formal education, touring of operational plants (a manufacturer of healthcare textiles and a healthcare laundry) and the time allotted for peer discussions; attendees will be energized with increased awareness of the industry they are a part of.

LHLS was built in 1970 – operational latter part of 1971. Since its opening, the facility / layout of production equipment has gone through many changes:

1975 – Dug out lower level to increase space for Surgical Pack Service

1989 – Expanded plant 17,000 sq. ft. to include new soil sort system and conversion from shell less washers to tunnel systems (2)

1994 – Isolated surgical linen service from the rest of the plant and installed two pass through steam sterilizers to achieve process standards to be the first Canadian laundry providing sterilized surgical packs – presently providing approximately 12,000 sterile packs per week

2002 – Automation / web control of plant HVAC systems

2005 – Total replacement of soil sort system, added additional (1) tunnel system, added additional (1) pass through steam sterilizer and moved three ironer lines

2006 – Expanded shipping dock

2009 – Total replacement of sling management system in finishing section of plant

2014 – Installation of dryer penthouse (on roof of existing plant- 7,000 sq. ft.). This space is totally automated housing all dryers (20) for tunnels and washer extractors. Removed all dryers from main floor.

The improvements were made without any interruption to the healthcare facilities we serve. In each case these upgrades improved the flow / performance of our operation. The facility exceeds 45 years of service – the facility has been maintained and the operational flow with modern equipment provides competitive production standards.
